So I'm dying here. My whole life I went without drinking soda. Then, when I started school I started drinking Dr. Pepper to stay awake... and I have become
I went to the gym for the first time in a long time, and I have gained weight since I started drinking Dr. Pepper. Granted, I haven't gone to the gym as much. But I'm not loving this at all.
So, yesterday I tried Diet Dr. Pepper. I didn't like it as much but it wasn't bad. I've heard the debate of Diet vs. Regular and so now I'm wondering.... which one should I drink? I think Dr. Pepper tastes better, but is it making me gain weight??? WHAT DO I DO!?!?! HELP!!!

Solution: Stop drinking soda?
Genius, I know.
neither! :D
Regular has more calories. the way i see it is. are those 178 calories in the regular worth running an extra 2 miles... nope. i'll stick with diet
I agree with Sierra.....but I am the Mom....congrats on your gym attendance...
Well Candy, I've been off the stuff for 2 weeks. I've dropped almost 8 pounds. Regular soda has a lot of empty calories, however being awake and coherent is an added bonus. I've done a bit of research on diet too. I don't mind DDP (diet dr. p), but the problem with it is that the aspartame/fake sugar in it sends signals to the body to release more insulin and can make you eat more...It sucks, but I'm just sayin...
Candy, I drink Diet Dr. Pepper every day and am now addicted. I used to like regular more, but now I think regular tastes WAY too sweet. I am a huge fan if DIET. However, diet does have aspartame which is very bad for your body in so many ways. The rumors are true insulin does make you crave food, however, regular has SO much sugar and calories. Sugar also raises insulin AND sugar turns to fat. So... my theory = If I am eating healthy and excersising. I need some type of treat to stay sane and happy. SO Diet Soda is my cheat! I have been doing just fine on it. I don't doubt that I would be better off without it, but if I am going to drink soda being concious of the unhealthy side effects, I am going to stick with diet.
My Take on the Question...
Are Diet Sodas Fattening?
here's my take on diet sodas.
I think that for some people switching to diet sodas from regular sodas helps them to lose weight because of the decrease in sugar and calorie consumption.
And, I also think that for some people the chemicals and artificial sweeteners in diet sodas negatively impact the body's metabolism.
There are 2 major points I want to make about weight loss. In my opinion...
#1 The overconsumption of sugar is wreaking havoc on our society's metabolism.
#2 The overconsumption of chemicals is wreaking havoc on our society's metabolism.
There is evidence that suggests that artificial sweeteners are toxic to the body, and this can negatively effect your metabolism.
I know that artificial sweeteners are helping a lot of people who are dieting to decrease their calorie intake, but artificial sweeteners may be the lesser of two evils.
Sodas have another drawback besides sugar or artificial sweeteners. And that drawback is...
Phosphoric Acid
Phosphoric acid is a chemical used to acidify foods and beverages, and it also provides a tangy taste.
Side Note: It is pretty well documented that the consumption of phosphoric acid is linked to lower bone density in epidemiological studies because the acid interferes calcium absorption.
Caffeine is also associated with decreased calcium absorption, so sodas with caffeine and phosphoric acid might provide a double whammy.
Your body has a certain ph level. Ph refers to potential hydrogen and ranges from 0-14.
0 is the most acidic and 14 is the most basic (or alkaline). 7 is neutral and around 7.4 is optimal for the blood.
When you consume certain foods and chemicals, your body becomes more acidic. When your body becomes more acidic all of your cells function less efficiently and your metabolism slows down.
Many weight loss plans focus on correcting ph balance, and my take is that the consumption of phosphoric acid and other chemicals is potentially the reason consuming diet sodas is linked with the development of Metabolic Syndrome and weight gain.
Did you know that a can of Coke can remove rust from metal?
What do you think acid does to your digestive tract?
The artificial sweetener may not be the ring leader in the assault on our metabolisms.
Our digestive system is always being bombarded with irritants, such as sugar, chemicals, and preservatives, and constantly adding acid to your digestive system will likely decrease its ability to burn fat and keep you healthy. : )
I'd rather be fat and happy
